Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation

2009 Youth Outdoor Leadership AND Conservation School

‘Leaders Rise With Opportunity’

The Camp: For more than 30 years the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation Youth Outdoor Leadership and Conservation School has introduced youth to outdoor skills and introduced them to wildlife management techniques from wildlife professionals.  In 2003 the School added a leadership component.  Some of the activities that youth will participate in include: archery, canoeing, wilderness survival skills, map and compass, fisheries studies, wildlife management and biology, canoeing, wilderness camping skills, cooking on one burner stove or fire, wild plant use, plus much more.

The outdoor skills are used to facilitate leadership qualities that can be used by youth at the branch, school and community level.  It is important for youth to recognize that while attending the school they will be expected to willingly participate in all of the classes and activities in a positive and constructive manner.

** In order to apply for the SWF Leadership and Conservation School youth must hold a valid branch or provincial membership in the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.

Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation Conducts a girl's camp during the first week of July and a boy's camp during the second week of July.  Both camps are held at the Prince Albert Wildlife Federation facilities just north of
Prince Albert.
    Both
schools focus on outdoor skills and wildlife management.  Some of the activities that the student will participate in include: handgun, small bore and trap shooting, archery, canoeing, wilderness survival skills, map and compass, fisheries studies, wildlife management biology, wild plant use and wilderness camping skills.  These activities are used to facilititate the development of leadership qualities that can be used by youth at the branch, school and community level.

B.
Zone 4 and 5 Alberta Fish and Game Association conducts a Youth Conservation Camp for both boys and girls during both the second and fourth weeks of July for students
that are ages 12-16 at the time of the camp.  All campers will row boats, learn to handle shotguns, rifles and handguns safely, hike, fish and camp in a wilderness outdoor setting.

The camp is conducted from the Narrow Lake Conservation Centre north-east of
Westlock, AB.

These Youth Conservation Camps emphasize how much humanity and nature depend on each other.  Campers earn how all living things interact and look at their responsibilities for the future.
